Nicoli
Some dogs run when they’re set free. Nicoli ran straight back — to us.
She was first spotted just a few kilometers from our clinic, wandering the streets alone. We brought her in, sterilized her, and cared for her wounds — routine work in a country where stray dogs outnumber safe homes. When she had recovered, we returned her to the same place where we found her — a quiet stretch of road she had made her own. But Nicoli didn’t stay. As we turned to leave, she came running after the car — eyes wide, tail wagging, heart full of something we didn’t expect: trust.
She didn’t want to go back to the street.
She wanted us.
And so, she stayed.
It’s been a year now. A full year since that soft-eyed girl chose life inside our gates over a return to the cold and uncertain world outside. She’s gentle, a little shy at first — but when she opens up, she’s all warmth. Quiet loyalty. Unspoken hope. And still, she waits. Waits for the person who’ll choose her like she once chose us. Waits for someone who sees the value in a dog who didn’t chase freedom, but chased connection.
Nicoli doesn’t want much. Just someone who won’t walk away.
