When we first found Barney, he was chained to a rusting fence in an empty yard in Tohatin — abandoned, starving, and utterly alone.
His owners had built a new house and simply left him behind. They put a For Sale sign on the gate… and walked away.
Days would pass between visits. When they bothered to come, they tossed scraps of bread over the fence. No water. No care. No compassion.
By the time we reached him, Barney was clinging to life. Desperate to survive, he had begun eating his own waste.
He was skin and bones. No muscle, no strength, no hope — just a trembling shadow of the dog he was meant to be.
But we took him. We carried him out of that place of neglect and despair. And slowly — with food, warmth, care, and love — Barney began to change.
Now, a year later, this gentle boy is unrecognisable.
Gone is the trembling ghost. In his place? A round, happy, wiggling bundle of joy.
Despite all he suffered, Barney still believes in people. He leans in for affection. He craves love. He adores company and now plays happily with other dogs — something he never knew chained and alone.
But here’s the hard truth: for every Barney we save, there are dozens more still waiting. Still suffering. Still chained.
And that’s why we need your help.
Hope4 Rescue is fighting to give these animals a second chance. But rescue takes resources — food, vet care, shelter, love.
